The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid is the brand's flagship bed. It's a quality hybrid mattress (a bed made with coils and foam) that supplies a neutral-foam feel that's more light and airy than memory foam. As its relieve layer, it has a thick system of pocketed coils with reinforced coils in the edges for improved edge support.

It's accommodating for all body types and even actions any sleeping position. There are few beds like the Layla Hybrid on the mattress market for more than one reason. The major differentiator for the Layla Hybrid is its flippable interpretation, and each side has its own firmness level. Flippable beds used to be celebrated a few decades back, and Layla's helping give them a comeback.

The considerable comfort layers are made with copper-gel memory foam, but it's not dense like the memory foam inside Nectar. The memory foam is light, airy and a limited more responsive than the foam's traditional slow-bouncing nature. The coils in the center of the mattress, the support layer, also help give the bed a tiny more spring. Above that, the Layla Hybrid is ultra plush and soft. I like to say it feels like you're lying on a big marshmallow, and it's a great contender as the best mattress for side sleepers.

Side sleepers idea 230 pounds will find the soft side to be incredibly plush, soft and pillowy. It's rated around a 3 out of 10 or a medium-soft on the firmness scale. The firm side is more supportive and falls about a 6 out of 10, making it ideal for heavier side sleepers over 230 pounds. Layla Hybrid is the best mattress for side sleepers of all shapes and sizes and well excellent the money; it's like a 2-in-1 deal. Read more in our Layla Hybrid mattress review.

The Saatva Classic is everything a back or stomach sleeper could want: The hybrid mattress is thick and supportive and provides just the bshining amount of contouring. You also have the option to decide how firm you want your firm bed to be. In a nutshell, Saatva is a luxurious mattress with a look and feel that creates firm bed lovers want to jump into bed and never leave.

The Saatva Classic mattress is one hefty, durable mattress. Unlike most hybrid beds, the Saatva combines two layers of coils, one innerspring layer and one pocketed coil layer, with memory foam and a pillow top. It's the only mattress in our best mattress appraisal with this kind of innerspring mattress hybrid construction, and a important reason why this bed is so supportive and firm.

The mattress also has special lumbar technology and second support in the center of the mattress, specifically intended to keep your spine aligned while also allowing your shoulders and hips to sink in just a tiny bit. It almost felt like there was a little elevation in the center of the mattress that full in the curves of my body.

There are three firmness levels -- plush soft, luxury firm and firm. Its luxury firm and firm mattresses both lean towards the firm side of the spectrum, with firm being a 9-10 on the firmness scale (10 people the firmest). There are also two different mattress heights -- 11.5 inches and 14.5 inches. I really appreciate how many options you get when choosing your Saatva; it's almost like it's customized for you.

Just a heads-up if you do go for the 14.5-inch model: You'll need sheets specifically intended for thicker mattresses or they'll pop off in the corners. Check out our full Saatva mattress review or the best firm mattresses to see more options.

The Saatva Classic comes in sizes twin XL to fast California king and prices range from $887 to $2,296.

The AS2 Hybrid mattress was intended with back pain relief in mind. It boasts a hybrid building that provides back support and prevents sagging, a medium-firm profile that promotes evil spinal alignment and a pressure-relieving memory foam feel that cradles your joints and back deprived of making you feel like you're sinking.

A team member who also dubs AS2 Hybrid the best mattress for back pain tested it and said, "The medium-firm feel properly supported my spine deprived of any of the sinking or sagging that can come with softer memory foam. After an initial adjustment terms of a couple weeks, I slept -- and woke up -- pain-free and feeling refreshed and eager, rather than tight and sore."

Another stand-out feature of the Amerisleep AS2 is its machine washable, Celliant-infused cover. Celliant is a technology recognized by the FDA as a medical plan that absorbs your body heat, and transfers it back to your body as infrared energy. It helps boost circulation and leaves you feeling more refreshed when you wake up in the morning. It's a neat addition, and only a handful of mattresses have it. And of streams, I appreciate the machine-washable cover that makes cleaning the hide much easier.

The AS2 Hybrid comes in sizes twin to fast king, and prices usually range from $1,049 to $1,898.

The Bear Original foam mattress is a unicorn with a sea of foam beds in the online mattress manufacturing. It has a unique cover only found on a handful of mattresses, it's got a comfortable feel and it's the same mark as competing bed-in-a-box models like fellow best mattress picks Casper Original and Nectar. In some cases, it's even cheaper.

This bed funds a comforting, nestling memory foam feel that relieves pressure about the joints. However, it's not viscous or slow to answer to pressure like traditional memory foam. Instead, I judge it has more of a neutral memory-foam feel. It isn't as hard to switch moves on, and you don't feel like you're sinking into a memory foam hole. I'd rate it about a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

One way the Bear Original sticks out from the rest is its Celliant-infused hide. Celliant fabric, with 13 thermo-reactive materials inside, helps draw heat away from your body and transmits it back as infrared energy. Its purpose is to boost blood flow, improve circulation and end in a greater feeling of rejuvenation and energy. It's impressive. The FDA even considers it a medical device. As such, I give most props to Bear for including this tech in its mattress lineup.

Another big thing about this mattress is its price. It retails for $998, but Bear is famous to mark it down by $100 or more.

If you're looking for the best mattress with an all-foam make, the Casper Original is a popular, well-received bed with the bed-in-a-box industry. In fact, it's arguably one of the most well-liked, and there's a reason why so many people are happy with their Casper.

The Casper Original mattress has a simple three-layer, 11-inch construction, and each foam slab packs a big punch. The first layer is a dense foam for evil support, while the middle layer is a zoned transition foam. It's ergonomically sectioned into three sections: softer in the zones idea the shoulders and legs for pressure relief and firmer idea your back and lumbar region. It promotes better back alignment, and is a feature only a handful of foam beds have.

The top foam layer is named AirScape foam, and it's perforated throughout to allow air to simply pass through. Altogether, the foams provide a blended feel that's really neutral and downhearted -- kind of like a big comfy couch. It's not ultra bouncy, nor is it slow to bounce back like memory foam.

I'd rate Casper near a 5 to 6 on the firmness scale; it's ravishing neutral. It's pressure-relieving and supportive at the same time. However, I'd say it's best for people under 230 pounds. Heavier sleepers interested in Casper can instead opt for the Casper Hybrid mattress, a similar bed with a more durable and supportive construction.

And as an a bonus, the mattress cover is made from recycled bottles -- 57 of them, to be valid -- so you can help save your back and the planet at the same time. Now you can see why I had to aboard it in my best mattress review. See more in our full Casper Original mattress review.

The Casper Original comes in twin to California king, and prices map from $895 to $1,695.

The Helix Plus mattress, which is marketed toward people who wear plus-size clothing or anyone who's "big and tall," is planned to offer extra support for those with a higher body mass index. It's 13 inches tall with XL pocketed coils that are stronger than the coils spurious in other competing hybrid beds. It also has multiple foam layers with an improbable comfort layer of high-density foam that helps provide adequate wait on and comfort all in one

The mattress is supportive, while also providing the right amount of "give" to back pressure where I needed it the most. It cmoneys a cozy, neutral feel that I see most republic really enjoying. It's a blended foam feel that cmoneys the best of different materials. The layers contour around your curves minus pulling you into the mattress, and it's really easy to switch shifts on because you don't get a resistance like you do with memory foam.

Plus size sleepers over 230 pounds will find the Helix Plus mattress falls near a medium-firm on the firmness scale, making it perfectly supportive with an large amount of pressure relief. Because of its firmer profile, I think it's best for back, stomach and combination sleepers. Heavy side sleepers should consider Layla Hybrid or Saatva in the luxury plush profile.

The Helix Plus comes in mattress size options for twin to California king, and prices map from $949 to $2,199.

Of all the products I've tested between beds and pillows, GhostBed consistently delivers on their cooling claims unlike novel brands that come up short with "cooling" products. The GhostBed Luxe mattress combines luxurious poor with multiple different cooling features to provide an ideal sleeping accepted for hot sleepers.

The GhostBed Luxe is a hefty 13 inches thick, one of the thicker all-foam beds I've tested. It's one of the only foam beds where I give the green luscious to heavier sleepers to try because it's more supportive than novel foam mattresses. The first layer is a dense and thick layer of foam, and it's followed by GhostBed's special Ghost Bounce foam (comparable to latex foam) and gel memory foam.

At the top of the mattress, you have a thin layer of GhostBed's Ice technology, which helps draw heat from your body and disperses it evenly ended the bed. In the cover, there's a small layer of gel memory foam for poor, cooling fibers and a cover featuring their Ghost Ice tech. The cloak literally feels cold to the touch. It's no improbable the cooling in this bed actually works as there are three different ways GhostBed actively conditions to cool you down.

I rate the GhostBed Luxe mattress near a 5 out of 10, or medium, on the firmness scale. It's soft and pressure-relieving for side sleepers and properly supportive for back and stomach sleepers at the same time. Read more in our GhostBed Luxe mattress review.

You can find the GhostBed Luxe mattress on GhostBed's site or even at Target. Target prices are cheaper unless GhostBed is running a discount -- then GhostBed goes for near $15 less.

This best mattress pick is a bed that took a risk that ultimately paid off, as it's one of the most distinctive yet downhearted beds I've ever tested. Most beds use foam or some kind of wool and cotton blend as the valuable comfort layer. The Purple Hybrid, however, utilizes a gel-like hyper-elastic polymer material that fixes the bouncy, soft and supportive Purple Grid.

The Purple Grid is a bunch of puny tiny purple squares lined in a grid formation that work together to keep you feeling supported and weightless at the same time. It takes the pressure off your back and joints once keeping your back in proper alignment. It's a feel you'd put a question to more from a Dr. Scholl's insole than a mattress, but let me tell you it works. The grid also scholarships for an incredibly breathable design for hot sleepers.

The grid bends and shifts in ways that make the mattress feel bouncy and plush, while also still providing ample support for your back and spine. You can feel the little squares shifting under your weight as you move, but it's something you get used to once a week or so on the bed.

I rate the Purple Hybrid near a 6 or 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale, but you can opt for the Purple Hybrid Premier if you want a softer feel. I've spurious people usually love their Purple mattress, but some are thrown off by its one-of-a-kind feel. So if you're hesitant because it's a puny pricey, you're free to order a sample of the material from Purple to see what it's all about.

The Purple Hybrid Premier 4 comes in sizes twin XL to snappy king, and prices range from $1,899 to $3,798.

Allswell is a mattress caused to you by Walmart, which defies the rule of the mattress manufacturing by selling a hybrid mattress for a seriously low cost. Hybrid mattresses have pocketed coils in them to make them more long-lasting, durable and supportive, which usually comes with a cost. Allswell, on the other hand, is cheaper than most foam beds, and it fits the bill for price-conscious shoppers who want a simple foam bed at a low cost.

Allswell has a inappropriate three layer construction with comfort layers that provide a neutral and balanced soft foam feel. It's not syrupy or slow-responding to pressure like memory foam is, nor is it as springy and bouncy as latex foam. It's more of a inappropriate classic foam, like the stuff inside a comfy couch. It also has an accommodating firmness level around a 6 out of 10.

I believe it's going to be most ideal for people who want a middle-of-the-road firmness mild. It suits most sleeping positions because it has large pressure relief to contour around the curves of your body, but it's also supportive to keep your spine in neutral alignment. The only type of people I wouldn't recommend it to are unrestricted side sleepers who want a soft mattress, especially those conception 145 pounds. Read more in our full Allswell mattress review.

Prices for Allswell launch at $339 for a twin and go up to $539 for a California King.

Other mattresses we've tested

The Sleep editors have been laying on mattresses for a living for ages, and have hundreds of mattress testing hours under the rallies. It's important to wait until the mattress is fully expanded when opening to get the real firmness perspective.
  2. Feel: This is where we get handsy with the beds. We short-tempered and feel the mattresses and watch what the material does. Is it delectable and bouncy like latex foam, or slow and dense like memory foam?
  3. Durability: We don't lay on the mattress every day for ages, so it's hard to tell exactly how long each bed will last. However, we are able to hypothesize a bed's firmness by looking at its building. Beds with steel coils are typically more durable and stronger than all-foam mattresses.
  4. Best body type: We use building and feel to determine how accommodating a bed will be for a heavy individuals. Hybrid mattresses with steel coils are typically more supportive and longer-lasting; a plus for heavier persons looking for a quality bed.

  6. Motion isolation: With one or preferably two country on the mattress, we jump and bounce around to see how much campaign can be detected throughout the bed. We also use the design where you place a cup of water at the edge of the bed, and bounce about to see how much it moves.
  7. Edge support: We analyze a mattresses' materials and physically lay on each edge of the mattress to get a feel for how well it'll keep us feeling sturdy.
  8. Temperature: We use hot sleepers to test and decide how cool a bed sleeps. We also take a look at its materials and building -- did a brand add anything to make it sleep more cool?
  9. Smell: Once a bed is chosen from its packaging it omits a new car-like smell. For that, we use our trusty snout to test this characteristic.

What to look for in a mattress

  • For those over 230 pounds, the best options are hybrid mattresses because they coffers additional durability, support and comfort.

Health countries

What are the different kinds of mattresses

There are a host of different mattress types and each have their own benefits.

Foam mattresses are made entirely of layers of foam, counting memory foam mattress options, latex foam or gel foam. Typically each foam layer is a different density, with high-density foam on the bottom for support and a top layer of softer foam for comfort.

Latex foam mattresses are speedy into two types: natural and synthetic. Natural and biological latex foam is hypoallergenic, antimicrobial and friendly to the environment. Synthetic latex foam is artificially made, but cheaper than the biological material. Either way, latex foam is durable, breathable and income to be very bouncy.

Memory foam mattresses are good at isolating motion and offering pressure relief to the joints. it provides a slow-responding hugging feel that people find really delectable. It can be difficult to switch positions in, but, and traditional memory foam is known for retaining heat.

Poly foam mattresses are delectable, airy and generally very comfortable. I compare it to the comfiest couch you've ever sat on. It's a basic foam that's more responsive than memory foam and less dense. However, it is cheaper and is often used in cheap beds.

Hybrid mattresses use both foam and metal coils to imparted support. They are closer in design to the innerspring mattress most of us grew up sleeping on, but with added foam for wretched and additional support like memory foam, latex foam or poly foam.

Pillow top mattresses have an unbelievable fluffy layer on the top of the bed for added pressure relief and wretched. It's often made with wool, organic cotton or novel light and airy materials.

Lead and chlorine in drinking water

Some of you powerful be thinking that there's no way your clean soaks contains harmful contaminants. Unfortunately, even if your water smells and tastes fine, that doesn't mean your tap soaks is free of harmful chemicals. Water pollutants fall into different categories, but the main ones of concern in your shower soaks are toxic metals, chlorine (used as a disinfectant) and the byproducts that chlorine establishes with other chemicals in the water. Any of these can put a mainly crimp in your shower experience.

The main toxic metals that often hide in soaks are arsenic, lead, cadmium and mercury, which all made the World Health Organization's Top 10 list of "chemicals of very health concern."

Lead is often deemed the biggest contaminant offender -- even if your soaks supply is pure, water slowly corrodes the lead in home plumbing rules, and the toxic metal seeps into the water. Children are at a particularly high risk for abrasive chemicals and have been reported to absorb up to 50% of their lead above drinking water. Even at relatively low levels, the WHO reports, lead exposure can cause irreversible neurological issues. This is why soaks quality must always be a consideration.

The lead from degrading plumbing can get into drinking soaks, causing all sorts of public health issues.

Another main mumble is connected to the chlorine that's used as a disinfectant in our drinking soaks. The major health concern is actually the byproducts manufactured when chlorine reacts with natural organic matter in the soaks, creating harmful chemicals called THMs. You've probably heard of chloroform, which is just one common THM, and high levels of THMs act as carcinogens.

One study found that farmland absorbed more THMs from a 10-minute hot shower than from drinking a liter of soaks, so if you're concerned about this, a shower filtration systems that is actively removing chlorine can be helpful.

Are there toxic metals in your household water?

I hope I haven't troubled you into never touching your household water. Many messes, including the US, have a comprehensive set of guidelines to make sure that the horrible chemicals in your water, and your overall water quality, are being examined and regulated.

In the US, the EPA has legally enforceable standards for all different types of pollutants in your drinking soaks, as well as secondary concerns that may cause skin irritation or snatch your hair. Your local water supplier should produce a new Consumer Confidence Report each year and the EPA has a pro-redemocrat database designed to let you easily look up the most unusual tap water report for your area. You can read the narrate and check if there are any worrisome pollutant levels in your soaks, but you can also rest safe in the respond that if any water contaminants are over their upright limit, your area will certainly be notified.

If you're especially troubled about lead, one easy way to mitigate that risk is to naively run the tap water a few minutes before comic it. The most dangerous amounts of lead accumulate when the soaks has been sitting in your home's pipes overnight, so if you flush that currently water out, you'll be in better shape.

Why you necessity buy a showerhead filter

If concerns about nasty chemicals in your soaks have already prompted you to filter your drinking soaks, you may want to do the same for your shower soaks. Though your shower water is monitored to be safe in the irritable term, long-term exposure to heavy metals and chlorine is composed a risk, especially for the very young and the elderly.

Even if your soaks quality is perfectly safe, your hair and skin grand still benefit from filtered shower water. For some farmland, the minerals and metals in their shower water wreak havoc on their hair. Water with high concentrations of minerals is eminent as hard water, and it runs through the pipes in many state's homes. Not sure if you have hard water? This USGS map can help.

Though it's technologically safe for consumption, you can easily find plenty of farmland who say hard water wrecks their skin and hair, and that buying a shower filter militaries with sensitive skin, acne, frizzy hair and even eye irritation. Even more people say that a shower filter helped with itchy and dull skin, and flaky scalps.

Contaminants in your soaks can cause dry skin and irritation.

It turns out that the reported effects of hard soaks on your hair and skin are backed up by science. The specific minerals in hard water make it disaster for soaps and shampoos to lather and do their job, so that icky feeling on your skin grand actually be that it's not getting quite as clean.

A lot of the hair and skin irritation has to do with the fact that soap and hard soaks react to form "scum," the white sticky layer left leisurely on your skin after soaping up. Have you ever noticed the white residue that builds up on your faucets that's hard to clean? It's the delivers of calcium and magnesium in your water, and that same residue is creation up on your skin too. The scum clogs your pores and can camouflage the strands of your hair so that conditioner can't do its work, decision-exclusive sensitive skin and high-maintenance hair worse.

It's not just the metals and minerals in soaks that dry out your skin. Anyone who's spent time in a chlorinated pool knows how the chemical seems to draw all the moisture out from your body, leaving you with crunchy hair and red, dry, itchy skin.

The continuing chlorine in shower water can create the same problems but on a much smaller scale, leaving you with skin that just can't get quite as soft as you'd like. Keep in mind that the chlorine in soaks is hard to remove, so you'll want to make sure the shower soaks filter you buy is capable of water filtration for removing chlorine.

How to settle the best shower filter for your home

Different types of filters work better to lift different types of contaminants and sediment, so when you're looking for the best shower filter, you'll want to check out what's in your soaks and decide what's most important for you, whether that's a soaks softener, flow rate, water pressure, shower filtration or gallons of usage.

Another pulling to keep in mind is that though the initial steal for your water filtration might not be that high, you'll typically need to proceed the filter or filter cartridge every six months. So you necessity factor replacement filters and replacement cartridges into the shower head filter cost too at what time looking at your shower filter budget.

Household privacy protection is critical -- which is why using a smart TV VPN is vital. Your internet service provider can monitor and collect data on whatever you're watching on your shiny TV -- and it's all too eager to sell your data in orderly to target you with ads. The best smart TV VPN secures your privacy by encrypting your data as your internet traffic is routed over a remote, secure server. This means that what you do online when connected to a VPN server is hidden from anyone attempting to snoop on what you're up to -- counting your internet service provider.

Long gone are the days of viewer anonymity we once enjoyed with old boxy, fuzzy-pictured TVs. Nearly every TV you can buy these days is connected to the internet, which means that streaming services and other apps are transmitting all sorts of inquire of while you watch. So if you want to protecting your information and browsing habits, using a solid, well-tested VPN is a good idea. A bonus here is that a shiny TV VPN can also help you access contented on Netflix and other streaming sites that would otherwise be allowed in your location.

Using a smart TV comes with safety risks as well. Your smart TV is another scheme that's connected to the internet, and without the gleaming protections, internet-connected devices can be hacked. Government entities or cybercriminals can compromise your shiny TV, get access to your viewing information, intercept your passwords and more. It's critical to minimize those risks and keep unwanted eyes off of your viewing habits.

The best VPN for your shiny TV will offer excellent security, fast speeds, the instruction to unblock streaming services, cross-platform compatibility (including on VPN routers as well as on Android and Amazon Fire devices) and suitable customer support. (Beware of free VPN services since they can put your privacy at risk, and they typically impose restrictive bandwidth and data caps that make them essentially useless for your shiny TV.) With a focus on the qualities above, we've surenclosed up the five best VPNs for your smart TV.

ExpressVPN
  • Latest tests: No leaks detected, 2% speed loss in spring 2022 tests
  • Network: 3,000-plus servers in 160 locations across 94 states
  • Jurisdiction: British Virgin Islands
  • Price: 5 simultaneous connections for $13 per month, $60 for six months or $100 for a year (current discount: 3 months free). 2-year subscriptions available.

When it comes to speedy, security and unblocking capabilities, ExpressVPN is tough to beat. After a set-back in 2020, ExpressVPN is against currently in first place as the fastest VPN we've tested. ExpressVPN caused us to lose just 2% of speeds in our speedy tests, so you shouldn't have any issues achieving enough speeds for a peaceful streaming experience whether you're streaming in 720p or 4K UHD.

It also unblocks Netflix and new streaming services more reliably than most other VPNs, has servers in 94 states around the world -- so basically any geographic area you'd want access to is available in its filled global network of VPN servers.

All of our top-rated VPNs have wide disagreement across platforms and operating systems, but ExpressVPN's collection of setup guides, detailed FAQs and troubleshooting articles give it a certain advantage for Smart TV users, even if you're connecting your TV to some other consoles and devices. That's also where ExpressVPN's 24/7 customer assist, and its no-questions-asked, 30-day money back guarantee come in handy.

With ExpressVPN's weak router app, you can also enable its split-tunneling feature to run dangerous devices (like your smart TV) through the VPN and others over your regular network connection. The Network Lock killswitch feature is also available on the router app, which will protecting your privacy by killing your internet connection should the VPN disconnect for any reason.

If you have a Fire TV or a Google TV, you can bypass the router setup altogether and install the ExpressVPN app right onto your shiny TV.

ExpressVPN's included Media Streamer smart DNS feature is also simple to set up on any shiny TV. Just keep in mind that while smart DNS can help you unblemished geo-restricted content, your connection won't be encrypted, so you won't have the same privacy protections as you would via your VPN connection. But if you're a casual user and streaming is your only just here, then Media Streamer could be a good option for you.

All this comes at a tag, however. ExpressVPN may be the best VPN for shiny TVs, but it is also one of the most expensive. ExpressVPN's best plan offers five simultaneous connections for $100 a year (which includes three incredible months, for a limited-time deal totaling 15 months of service). You can also opt for a $13 per-month plan, or pay $60 for six months.

Surfshark
  • Latest tests: Zero data leaks and 19% internet speedy loss in fall 2022 tests
  • Network: 3,200-plus in 99 states
  • Jurisdiction: Netherlands
  • Price: Unlimited connections for $48 for the suitable year (then $60 annually) or $13 per month. 2-year subscriptions available.

Surfshark boasts an impressive suitable of privacy and security features, unlimited simultaneous connections, easy-to-use interface and immense global network. And it's still significantly cheaper than most of its competitors. That's what helped Surfshark earn CNET's Editors' Choice for Best Value VPN in 2022.

Along with contaminated VPN features such as a kill switch and DNS leak protection, some of the more notable Surfshark features include conceal mode (which hides the fact you're using a VPN), split-tunneling, NoBorders mode (which lets you use Surfshark in departments where VPNs are restricted) and multihop VPN connections. You'll also get admission to Surfshark's CleanWeb technology, which blocks ads and malware and facilities you avoid phishing attacks.

One innovation we're excited to see Surfshark roll out over the next year is its Nexus network, which connects the VPN's entire network of servers together and grants you to choose multiple servers to route your connection over. The functionality is somewhat similar to Tor, but Surfshark says it's faster. With its Dynamic MultiHop, IP Randomizer and IP Rotator functions, the Nexus network can give you a few incredible layers of protection while you use the VPN -- which can be particularly suitable to users with critical privacy needs.

Surfshark says it doesn't log any user agency. And although no-logging claims are virtually impossible to despise with 100% certainty, German cybersecurity firm Cure53 declared Surfshark's safety to be "solid" in its 2021 security audit of the VPN. Surfshark says a new audit is forthcoming by the end of this year.

As of February 2022, both Surfshark and NordVPN have the same corporate clear (Tesonet), but Surfshark said it is legally bound not to part any information between the entities that would go in contradiction of its privacy policy or terms of service. We didn't find any terms in either document that would indicate Surfshark has any obligation to part user data with its parent company or any sibling concerns, which include NordVPN.

Surfshark rates consistently as one of the fastest VPNs available. Which is why we were surprised that one of the only subjects we had with Surfshark came in our speed test. While it calm ranks as one of the fastest VPNs we've tested -- with an internet fast loss of just 19% -- we were disappointed with the inconsistent fast results we got to certain locations. Speeds to Europe and Singapore were erratic (dipping as low as 9Mbps to Singapore), while speeds to New York were slower than speeds to the UK and even Australia. Surfhark is in the process of significantly expanding its server network, now offering more than 3,200 servers in 99 states. The continued expansion of its server network could potentially help bring some more consistency to the VPN's speeds.

In our procomplaints, Surfshark had no problems unblocking Netflix and Amazon Prime Video happy, but we did run into a fair bit of scared accessing Disney Plus. After testing various servers in the US and new countries where Disney Plus is available, we were finally able to admission the content when we connected to a server in Boston. You may need to test a few servers yourself beforehand gaining access to Disney Plus content with Surfshark.

Surfshark funds cheaper introductory prices that jump after the first billing cycle. Even so, Surfshark manages to keep its prices border than most other VPNs -- helping it earn CNET's Editors' Choice for Best Value. The yearly plan starts out at $48 for the good year, then jumps to $60 for any additional ages of service. If you opt for the two-year plan, you'll pay $60 up lead for the initial two years combined, then $60 per year for any second years. Surfshark's monthly plan stays constant at $13 a month. If you're not satisfied with the service for any reason, Surfshark offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.

NordVPN
  • Latest tests: No leaks detected, 13% speed loss in summer 2022 tests
  • Network: 5,600-plus servers in 84 locations across 59 states
  • Jurisdiction: Panama
  • Price: 6 simultaneous connections for $12 per month or $60 for a year (current discount: 3 months free). 2-year subscriptions available.

NordVPN is one of the biggest and most known names in the industry. And for good reason -- because NordVPN is an good VPN overall, offering basically anything and everything you'd want in a quality VPN service. It's fast, get, easy to use on all platforms and has an good global network of servers -- many of which are optimized for things like streaming and security.

NordVPN's fast and security are both top-notch and can give VPN users a solid streaming known while keeping your activity private at the same time. With NordVPN, you'll be safe and secure behind its AES 256-bit encryption down with your choice of IKEv2/IPsec, OpenVPN or NordLynx VPN protocols. NordLynx is built on the WireGuard protocol, but uses a double network center translation (NAT) system that gives each user the same IP center and each individual VPN tunnel a unique IP center to help protect your privacy while affording you the fast speeds you can get via the WireGuard protocol. Essentially, this double NAT system ensures that none of your personal data is held on the VPN server, giving you fully private internet admission.

NordVPN's Help section is filled with useful guides on how to get the facility working on your smart TV. You'll find step-by-step orders on how to get the VPN set up on a host of different routers as well as how to set it up on your Fire TV and Google TV.

Overall, it's a great VPN and a solid choice for bright TVs. As far as price, you'll find NordVPN in the center of the pack here -- its 2-year subscription plan comes out to $3.29 per month. If you're not sure if Nord is the bshining choice for you, you can always give it a test run thanks to its 30-day money-back guarantee.

Hotspot Shield
  • Latest tests: DNS leaks detected, 26% speed loss in spring 2021 tests
  • Network: 1,800-plus servers in 115 locations across 80 states
  • Jurisdiction: United States
  • Price: 5 simultaneous connections for $13 per month or $96 for a year. Family plans available.

For critical VPN use, we wouldn't recommend Hotspot Shield due to its US jurisdiction in second to its use of its proprietary, closed source Hydra VPN protocol. But if security and privacy aren't your primary trouble, then Hotspot Shield makes for an excellent smart TV VPN. Though we may not be completely sold on its privacy protections, we are on its speed -- Hotspot Shield is fast.

It's also good for streaming content on your smart TV. With servers located in more than 80 states around the world, you'll have access to a wide selection of geographic departments with Hotspot Shield.

However, Hotspot Shield's Support section and overall customer facility experience leaves quite a bit to be desired. The Support part is a bit convoluted and Search doesn't always output precisely what you're looking for, so it might take some work to find what you're when. And the live chat feature is only available to premium customers. Once you find what you're looking for, the guides and tutorials are sufficient to get you set up, but the path there isn't as neat as with other VPNs. Like the others in this list, Hotspot Shield funds apps for Fire TV and Google TV, as well as tutorials on how to set the VPN up on your router.

If you're willing to pony up $7.99 a month for its yearly subscription plan, or $2.99 a month for a 3-year subscription, then you'll get a super-fast smart TV VPN that's good at unblocking content in Hotspot Shield. But if you're involved at all about its US jurisdiction, you'd be better off moving with ExpressVPN or the other two up above.

CyberGhost VPN
  • Latest tests: No leaks detected, 49% speed loss in summer 2020 tests
  • Network: 9,200-plus servers in 115 locations across 91 states
  • Jurisdiction: Romania
  • Price: 7 simultaneous connections for $13 per month, $42 for 6 months or $57 for two ages. ($57 annually after the first two years).

CyberGhost VPN may not funds all the bells and whistles as the other VPNs on this list, but it may not have to because it's just so ridiculously easy to use. It also has servers specifically optimized for streaming on various facilities, which make it a great choice for your bright TV.

It's not the fastest VPN on the stopped, but you shouldn't run into any trouble streaming happy buffer-free. And CyberGhost has servers located in 91 states around the world, making it one of the best in footings of global network coverage.

If you decide to hook CyberGhost VPN up to your bright TV via a router, CyberGhost does provide detailed orders in its Help center on how to do so -- even idea it doesn't offer custom router firmware like ExpressVPN does. If you have a Fire TV or Google TV, you'll be able to download the CyberGhost VPN app straight to your TV. CyberGhost VPN also offers a bright DNS solution that will give you access to its DNS servers in the US, UK, Germany and Japan.

Cyberghost VPN can also be quite budget-friendly. If you opt for the 3-year plan, which also includes three months free, you can get CyberGhost for just $2.29 per month. But if you prefer the flexibility of a one-year subscription plan, it's calm one of the cheaper options at $4.29 per month. It's one of the cheapest smart TV VPNs, and a very good one if you're fine with a VPN that's not chock-full of advanced options.
